This 13 volume set by the Grolier Society actually forms 3 individual works set into 9 volumes, 3 volumes and 1 volume respectively. Illustrated with over 1200 plates including some in color as well as other illustrations including maps, facsimiles and more.

The first nine volumes are a translation by M. L. McClure, edited by A. H. Sayee of Maspero's Histoire des peuples de l'Orient classique. [1] Les origines [2] Les premieres melees des peuples; [3] Les empires. The next three volumes by S. Rappoport cover the history of Egypt from 300 BC to the present in three parts, each forming one volume. King and Hall contributed on the prehistoric history of Egypt, Chaldea, Babylonia and Assyria in a single volume.
