Description

Thomas Duer Broughton was sent to India as a cadet. He was actively engaged at the siege of Seringapatam in 1799 and afterwards was appointed the Commandant of the Cadet Corps, and in 1802 the Military Resident with the Mahattas. For a short time previous to the restoration of Java to the Dutch he held the command of that island.
