Description

William Cornwallis Harris joined the East Indian Company as a second lieutenant at the age of 16, serving in India for much of his remaining career, save for a year in South Africa in 1836, and a three-year mission to Ethiopia, narrated in the present work. A military engineer, he is perhaps most noted for his hunting exploits and observations of natural history.
